“I am certain that personalized marketing to our customers is just around the corner. Machine learning will enable us to take concepts developed by companies like Google and Netflix and translate them into models appropriate in pharma.”

This is a prediction from Gellert Toth, Senior Director, Advanced Analytics, Sanofi US, in the PMSA member spotlight on their website.

The PMSA, Pharmaceutical Management Science Association, backs up their belief in this prediction as well at their 2018 Annual Conference on Next Generation Analytics from 4/29 to 5/2 in San Antonio, Texas. Their agenda includes a number of sessions on machine learning:

  • A Novel High-Dimensional Hybrid Machine Learning Approach Identifying High-Value Rare Disease Specialists A session led by Actelion and Symphony Health.
  • Optimizing Physician Targeting to Find Undiagnosed Patients: An Application of Advanced Machine Learning Methods to Hepititis C From the Senior Data Scientist at IQVIA
  • Use Machine Learning to Better Identify Physician Targets for New Product Launches A session led by the President of Bayser.

The PMSA has been providing educational and networking opportunities for pharma data analytics professionals for over 40 years. PMSA is a non-profit association led by senior-level pharma manufacturer personnel, with input from vendor partners. Members include manufacturer representatives in the analytics profession, including key decision makers/purchasers of pharmaceutical data, software, and consulting services. Their annual conference has been a “must-attend” event for all commercial analytic practitioners in the pharmaceutical industry for years. This year’s event, in addition to the more traditional segmentation and case study presentations, looks to have a heavy emphasis on cutting edge analytical methodologies. A popular event will be the panel discussion and roundtables on next generation analytics on Tuesday afternoon.

Smith Hanley Associates’ Pharmaceutical Commercial Analytics Recruiter, Eda Zullo, will be in attendance and interested in meeting old friends as well as new ones. If you are in commercial analytics, you should plan to attend, and put Eda on your list as someone to meet!
