Here is what Jing Jin, Director at Sage Therapeutics, had to say on LinkedIn after attending the May 2023 PMSA (Pharmaceutical Management Science Association) Conference in San Diego: “…this transformative event has reenergized my commitment to our shared goals and reminded me of the impact we can make together as data analytics professionals in the pharma industry!” Here are some highlights from this very successful PMSA 2023 Annual Conference.

Workshops and Sessions

The conference opened on Sunday with two workshops: Enabling Omnichannel Excellence at Scale with Axtria Customer IQ and Using Conversational AI to Conduct Payer Analytics presented by WhizAI. Following a Welcome Reception Sunday night, the conference was kicked off on Monday morning by Igor Rudychev, PMSA President.

Six general sessions and twenty-two track sessions followed over the next three days. Here is the detailed agenda. Identifying and Characterizing Asthma Subgroups at High Risk of Severe and Life-Threatening Exacerbations with Machine Learning and Longitudinal Real-World Data was awarded the Best Podium Session of the PMSA 2023 Annual Conference. It was presented by a team from IQVIA and Pfizer and utilized predictive and clustering models to stratify the heterogeneous asthma population.

Exhibit Hall and Poster Sessions

Mid-morning, lunch and end-of-day breaks provided opportunity for Vendor Fair visits and review of over 40 Poster Sessions. Sponsors and exhibitors at the event included Axtria, WhizAI, CareSet, Compile, Fractal, Indigene, Komodo, PurpleLab, TEllius, Trinity, Veeva, Verix, ZS, CoNexus Solutions, Inc., Forian, The Math Company, Medicx, Odaia, SRI, Tiger Analytics, Claritas, Lexidyne and ProcDNA.
The award for Best Poster in Session 1 was Data Analytics for Digital Promotion Targeting presented by Novo Nordisk. For Session 2 Best Poster was A Novel Approach to Identify Clinical Markers of Multiple Sclerosis Progression Using Machine Learning by Novartis.

Relationship Building

There were multiple Gold and Platinum Sponsored Events in the evening as well as a Dinner Cruise on the Admiral Hornblower on Monday night. The Women in Analytics held a luncheon event entitled, “Breaking Barriers: Fueling Female Leadership.” There were multiple opportunities at breaks and meal times to interact with the over 400 commercial analytics professionals from 40+ pharmaceutical manufacturers and 60+ data and consulting partners. Commercial Analytics Executive Recruiter, Eda Zullo, said “This was the largest PMSA Conference I’ve attended in the last 10 years. Analytics professionals were anxious to re-connect and refresh and expand their expertise after the isolation of the pandemic.”

Awards

Along with the Best Podium Session and the two Best Poster Awards PMSA 2023 recognized one of their own leaders. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Cindie Dilley, Global Head of Advanced Analytics at UCB, for her contributions to PMSA and the pharmaceutical analytics Community. Cindie served on the PMSA Board for nine years and has been in the pharmaceutical industry for twenty years. She has an MS and PhD in Economics from the University of Illinois.

As another attendee said, “Can’t wait for the next event.” Interested in hearing more about the PMSA 2023 Annual Conference? Or, to discuss your career or hiring needs in Commercial Analytics?
