This fifteen minute Ted Talk should inspire you on how your work as a statistician or data scientist has far reaching impact on our every day world. Kevin Slavin, co-founder of the firm that became Zynga, and current Assistant professor of Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Media Lab, gave this talk in 2011 and has garnered 2 million views since. He talks about the big part that algorithms play in our day-to-day lives and how instrumental they are in solving our problems for us. His talk certainly fulfills the MIT Media Lab’s mission of “looking beyond the obvious to ask the questions not yet asked-questions whose answers could radically improve the way people live, learn, express themselves, work and play.” An interesting mission and a fascinating Ted Talk. Enjoy!
